The latest edition of the World’s Top 2% Scientists ranking has been released! This year, 1,244 Polish researchers are recognized among the leading experts in their fields.
The TOP 2% ranking is produced by Stanford University scientists in cooperation with publisher Elsevier BV and the SciTech Strategies Inc. In 2024, two rankings have been published, the first of which takes into account the scientific achievements of researchers from the beginning of their scientific career until the end of 2023 (including both active scientists and those who have already retired), and the second is based on scientific achievements in 2023 only.
In the World’s TOP 2% Scientists 2024 list, Poland is represented by 1,244 representatives in the list covering the entire research career and 1350 in the list of achievements for the last year only.
Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields according to the standard Science-Metrix classification. Field- and subfield-specific percentiles are also provided for all scientists with at least 5 papers. The selection is based on the top 100,000 scientists by c-score (with and without self-citations) or a percentile rank of 2% or above in the sub-field.
A greater number of influential scientists can boast: Warsaw University, AGH University and Warsaw University of Technology.
The most-cited Polish scientist is the Polish mathematician and computer scientist, Prof. Zdzisław Pawlak. Although he died 14 years ago, contemporary researchers still cite his work in the field of artificial intelligence and computer science.
