17 April 2026

The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange has announced the opening of the call for proposals under the PHC Polonium 2026 programme, supporting joint research projects between Poland and France.

NAWA organizes this initiative in cooperation with the Ambassade de France en Pologne – Service de Coopération et d’Action Culturelle, the Ministère de l’Europe et des Affaires Étrangères, and the Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur, de la Recherche et de l’Innovation, forming a long-standing framework for bilateral scientific collaboration.

Supporting international research collaboration

The PHC Polonium programme aims to foster cooperation between Polish and French research teams by funding the mobility of scientists. The programme supports travel and accommodation costs related to research collaboration, enabling joint project implementation across institutions in both countries.

Applications are open to universities and research institutions, and proposals must be developed jointly by partners from Poland and France. Additionally, it is important to submit applications simultaneously to both coordinating institutions: via NAWA in Poland and through Campus France in France.

Key deadline and funding conditions

The call for proposals for PHC Polonium 2026 is open until 30 June 2026, 3:00 PM (Warsaw local time).

Projects are typically implemented over a two-year period and focus on researcher mobility rather than direct research costs. Funding supports travel and subsistence expenses for participating scientists.

Evaluation criteria and priorities

Applications will undergo substantive evaluation by NAWA experts. Key assessment criteria include:

  • scientific quality and innovation of the project,
  • methodology and feasibility,
  • qualifications of the research teams,
  • added value and sustainability of Polish-French cooperation.

Additional consideration may be given to projects involving early-career researchers, cooperation with socio-economic partners, and alignment with broader European initiatives such as Horizon Europe, as well as proposals consistent with the strategic partnership between Poland and France.

Strengthening bilateral scientific ties

The PHC Polonium call is part of a broader programme of Joint Research Projects that NAWA implements under bilateral agreements with partner countries. These initiatives aim to strengthen international scientific collaboration and facilitate long-term partnerships between research institutions.

The programme supports researcher mobility and joint scientific efforts, while continuing to play a key role in advancing Polish-French cooperation.
