30 November 2023

10 years ago, the Centre for Digital Humanities (CHC) at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences was established by the decision of the Director of the IBL PAN, Prof. Dr. Mikołaj Sokołowski. Since then, continuously under the leadership of Dr. Maciej Mariel, it has been coordinating activities related to the construction and use of infrastructure for literary and cultural research since 2013.

On this occasion on 30 November 2023, a symposium will be held at the Staszic Palace in Warsaw to present the digital monograph ‘Panorama of Digital Literary Studies’.

Over the past decade, the Centre for Digital Humanities has played an important role in the development of digital humanities research in Poland.  The “Polish Studies Newsletter” is one of the initial and ongoing projects created by CHC.

The Centre’s main areas of activity are:

  • Digital scholarly editions using the TEI standard
  • Extended monographs
  • Platforms for scholarly communication
  • Literary databases
  • Computational research into literature and culture

CHC undertakings also aim at integration to Polish studies research community and to disseminate the knowledge about Polish literature and culture. CHC cooperates with major European research infrastructures in the humanities and social sciences (OPERAS, DARIAH, CLARIN), as well as their national branches. In Poland, CHC functions as the national node OPERAS-PL.
