Poland is investing nearly PLN 70 million (EUR 16 million)to create its first Artificial Intelligence Factory. It will be established in the the Cyfronet Academic Computer Center of AGH University in Kraków. The project is co-financed by the European Commission.
According to Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs Dariusz Standerski, who spoke with the Polish Press Agency (PAP), the AI Factory will focus on fostering collaboration within the broader European AI ecosystem, benefiting from support from the European Commission. Unlike traditional factories, the AI Factory will act as a cutting-edge platform for AI innovation, providing Poland with the computing power and data resources needed to drive advancements in artificial intelligence.
“Investing in the construction of the AI Factory in CYFRONET is a key step towards bolstering the position of Poland in the European AI ecosystem. Owing to the state financial support and cooperation with the European Commission, we will expand our computational infrastructure for our university and country to enter a new stage of technological advancement. I am deeply convinced that not only will this initiative bring substantial scientific advantages, but it will have a positive influence of the development of an innovation-based economy. Compliments are also due to the management of CYFRONET and the entire expert team of this unit, involved in the project of great potential and importance for Poland’s technological future,” summarised the AGH University Rector, Professor Jerzy Lis.
The AI Factory is to be a research and development centre which will allow Polish researchers to develop, co-create, test, and use cutting-edge AI-based technologies. It will be established by expanding and enhancing the computer and computational resources of CYFRONET.
The works will start later this year and finish in 2025. The AI Factory is expected to be a game-changer for Poland, driving innovation and furthering the country’s technological and economic progress.
