The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange has officially announced the opening of applications for the Ulam NAWA Programme 2026. This is a prestigious initiative designed to strengthen the internationalization of Polish science and higher education.
This initiative is a key step toward strengthening Poland’s position in the global research landscape by bringing international expertise into its universities and institutes.

Why the Ulam Programme Matters
Through this programme, selected researchers from abroad will join Polish institutions for 6 to 24 months, contributing to dynamic academic environments. Their involvement may include conducting research, publishing scientific work, supporting grant applications, and participating in teaching activities.
The programme welcomes all fields of science, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation.
Who Can Apply?
Applications must be submitted by a Polish host institution, including research institutes and scientific organizations operating under Polish higher education law, that intends to employ an international researcher as a Project Leader.
There is no limit on the number of applications per institution, provided each proposal involves a different candidate.
Funding and Duration
The programme provides substantial financial support, including:

Project Leader salary: up to PLN 17,000 per month

Inviting Person allowance: up to PLN 1,200 per month
The maximum project budget is PLN 436,800.
Projects must last 6 to 24 months and are expected to begin between 1 February and 1 December 2027.
Requirements for Project Leaders
Eligible candidates must:

Hold at least a doctoral degree

Be currently employed at a foreign institution (or have completed such employment after 31 August 2025)

Not have lived, studied, or worked in Poland for more than 3 continuous months within the last 3 years

Demonstrate at least three significant scientific achievements in the past 5 years
Polish nationals may account for a maximum of 10% of selected Project Leaders.
Special Track: MSCA Excellence
Researchers holding either the MSCA Seal of Excellence (Postdoctoral Fellowships – European Fellowships) or the MSCA4Ukraine Accolade of Excellence are eligible for a simplified application pathway.
Applications under this track are not subject to additional scientific evaluation, as NAWA recognizes prior European-level assessment.
