Students from Rzeszów University of Technology (RUT) have secured top positions among the world’s leading aerospace design teams. Competing in the prestigious SAE Aero Design East competition held in Fort Worth, Texas, they achieved high rankings in several technical and overall categories, the university announced on Friday.
SAE Aero Design is one of the most prestigious international aviation competitions, attracting university teams from around the globe. Rzeszów University of Technology was represented by 10 students from the “Euroavia” student association at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics. The team participated in two of the competition’s three classes—Micro and Regular—and brought two aircraft of their own design to the event.
In the Micro class, the team competed with the EA-03 “Magpie”—a lightweight, compact, electric-powered aircraft capable of carrying and releasing a water payload with minimal wingspan and limited engine power.
Facing 15 teams in this category, the Rzeszów students placed:
-
4th in Design
-
5th in Mission Performance
-
7th Overall
-
10th in Technical Presentation
The Micro team was led by Maciej Nejman, with Wojciech Koszelski, Justyna Rybak, and Michał Antonik serving as pilots.
In the Regular class, the EA-04 “Bobber” had to meet strict weight and material constraints, including a maximum take-off weight of 55 pounds (approximately 25 kg), while fulfilling demanding payload capacity and design requirements.
Competing against 34 teams in this category, the RUT students achieved:
-
3rd in Design
-
9th in Mission Performance
-
10th Overall
-
28th in Technical Presentation
This team was captained by Wojciech Stachura, with Sebastian Florek, Krzysztof Gruchała, Piotr Stasiulewicz, Kamil Angowski, and Maciej Nejman as pilots.
According to Anna Worosz from the university’s press office, the “Euroavia” student group has participated in international engineering competitions for years, consistently showcasing the technical expertise of RUT’s aerospace and mechanical engineering students. “This year’s success is yet another testament to the high quality of education and the advanced project capabilities of young engineers from Rzeszów,” she added.
