The Łukasiewicz Research Network established on 1 April 2019 is the third largest research network in Europe and the largest network in Poland. Its major purpose is to enhance the transfer of innovative technology to the Polish economy.
Łukasiewicz offers businesses an attractive model of collaboration in key areas in the process of building a competitive edge on the rapidly changing market: sustainable economy and energy, digital transformation, clean and smart mobility and health. Łukasiewicz operates in such a manner so as to minimize the capital expenditures of a business, while maximizing the prospective benefits from research and development cooperation.
It is expressed in a unique system of initiating research and development work that has been in place since November 2019. The Łukasiewicz Challenges bring together a group of 4,500 scientists and engineers who within a term of 15 business days accept a company’s business challenge and offer to develop an effective implementation idea. At the same time, it involves unparalleled scientific apparatuses in Poland, including 440 R&D laboratories and nearly 500 research machines unlike any others available in the country.
At present, Łukasiewicz consists of 32 research institutes and the Łukasiewicz Center, which was established to plan and coordinate the scientific research and development work done by these institutes.
Two years of the Łukasiewicz Research Netowrk
The establishment of Łukasiewicz has changed the innovation landscape in Poland. The Łukasiewicz Institutes operate in a planned and coordinated manner, in research groups. They follow the research directions pointed by the Council of the Łukasiewicz Center, identified as key to achieving the objectives of the Strategy for Responsible Development. These include: smart and clean mobility, digital transformation, health, sustainable economy and energy. Łukasiewicz develops research programs that channel the work of scientists into areas strategic to the development of the economy and society.
The establishment of the Łukasiewicz Network increased the market reach of the offer of the Łukasiewicz Institutes. They created a proposal for a business covering the entire technological sequence.
The Łukasiewicz Challenges
Solution in 15 days The Łukasiewicz Research Network was established to follow the shortest path from science to business. Namely, the path denoting the least effort by a business applying for support from the scientific community and the shortest possible time for the scientific community to respond to the challenges faced by the business community. In business, time is frequently of crucial significance for the success of an undertaking. That is why Łukasiewicz operates in such a manner so as to minimize the capital expenditures of a business while maximizing the prospective benefits from research and development cooperation. The Łukasiewicz Challenges are a manifestation of this approach. This is a unique system of initiating research and development work that has been in place since November 2019. It has brought together a group of 4,500 scientists and engineers who within a term of 15 business days accept a company’s business challenge and offer to develop an effective implementation idea.
At the same time, it involves Poland’s top-in-class scientists’ skills and unparalleled scientific apparatuses in the country. More importantly, businesses do not incur any of the costs for Łukasiewicz to develop the concept for research work. In addition, if there is a readymade solution for such a challenge in the form of a pre-existing product or service in Łukasiewicz (such as a certification order or research into compliance with standards), then thanks to these Łukasiewicz Challenges an offer will be given to such a business within 7 business days.
