Poland has been chosen to host the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in 2027, the world’s biggest space event, the Polish Space Agency (POLSA) has announced.
The IAC is the world’s largest and most significant space event, bringing together leading space agencies, companies, scientists, and innovators.
The decision was made on October 18, during this year’s IAC held in Milan, Italy, which attracted over 11,000 participants. It will be the first time in over 60 years that Poland hosts this global event, signaling a momentous occasion for the country and its growing influence in space exploration.
Professor Grzegorz Wrochna, President of the Polish Space Agency, emphasized the symbolic significance of the decision: “The decision to award Poland the organization of the world’s largest space event is a testament to our country’s growing role in space exploration and utilization. It also reflects the increasingly strong position of Polish companies securing more contracts and the active participation of our scientists in international projects.”
The vote by several hundred federation members, including international space agencies, universities, companies and NGOs, marked a major achievement for the Polish space sector, POLSA said.
“We would like to thank everyone for their support and get down to work on this prestigious event, which is vital for our country and the entire Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region,” POLSA said in a statement.
