The Łukasiewicz Research Network has launched a Space Research Programme aimed at developing advanced satellite and rocket technologies in Poland. The initiative brings together the scientific and technological potential of 22 institutes within the network to support the development of space systems for both civilian and defence applications.

The programme focuses on building national capabilities across the full value chain of space missions that range from satellite technologies to launch systems and mission payloads.

Programme scale

The planned investment in the programme is estimated at approximately PLN 2.4 billion over a period of ten years. The initiative is expected to run until 2035 and include numerous research and development projects conducted across the Łukasiewicz Research Network.

Dual-use technologies

Many of the solutions developed within the programme will have dual-use potential, meaning they can be applied both in civilian space activities and in security and defence systems. Examples of research directions include advanced satellite technologies, innovative propulsion solutions and new materials designed for space environments.

Strengthening Poland’s space sector

By combining research expertise with cooperation with industry and public institutions, the programme aims to strengthen Poland’s role in the European space ecosystem. It will support the development of innovative technologies, new industrial capabilities, and international collaboration in the space sector.

SPARK: Testing Polish Space Technologies in Orbit

Within the next two years, the SPARK satellite, developed jointly by a group of Łukasiewicz institutes and coordinated by Łukasiewicz  Institute of Aviation, is planned to be launched into orbit. The mission will support testing of technologies developed within the network in real space conditions, allowing them to gain so-called flight heritage, which is essential for further technological development and commercialisation.

The launch of SPARK will be an important milestone for Poland’s space sector, strengthening national capabilities in satellite technologies and contributing to the development of a competitive and innovative space industry.
