Kornelia Wieczorek is not even 18 years old yet and is already recognized in the scientific community. The teenager has international research successes to her credit. Her next idea could advance medicine even further.

The young scientist comes from Łódź and is only 16 years old. She is a student at the 3rd High School in Gdynia. However, researchers from, among other places, the USA have already heard about her projects. Thanks to her achievements, Kornelia Wieczorek also made it onto the Forbes list of the 100 most influential women.

Together with her colleague Diana Serjant, Kornelia Wieczorek developed a biodegradable fertilizer based on strains of Rhizobium bacteria. The teenagers’ discovery is unique, because the fertilizer they created does not contribute to water eutrophication or soil degradation. It promotes seed growth. The effect of their research has been recognised worldwide.

Kornelia Wieczorek represented our country at the Regeneron ISEF scientific competition in Los Angeles. Thanks to this innovative solution, Kornelia and Diana also made it to the finals of the nationwide Explory competition.

In addition, Kornelia was named a two-time winner and benefited from mentoring from the Pomeranian Science and Technology Park in Gdynia, which enabled her to conduct her research for the past year.

Together with her colleague Leon Krupa, Kornelia is currently working on an app called „Skóra bez obaw”(Skin without fear’), which will help with dermatological diagnosis by analysing skin images. The app is intended to be particularly useful for seniors and people with disabilities, providing easier access to the initial diagnosis of skin lesions.

The teenager is also the author of a neurosurgery blog, where she popularizes knowledge in the field of neuroscience, which she is bound to in her future

In September, 16-year-old Kornelia Wieczorek will start her third year of secondary school with a biology and chemistry profile. After graduating from high school, she plans to continue her education at medical school.
