Dr. Anna Huth from the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia has been elected to the Board of the European Film Academy (EFA). The Academy is a renowned organization that has been supporting filmmakers, promoting European cinema globally, and organizing the prestigious European Film Awards for decades.

The European Film Academy was founded following the first European Film Awards ceremony in 1988 by a group of leading European filmmakers. Initially established as the European Cinema Society, its mission is to strengthen collaboration within the film industry and create space for the development of the cinematic arts. Its first president was Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, followed by Wim Wenders, Agnieszka Holland, and, most recently, Juliette Binoche. The current Chair of the Board is British producer Mike Downey, with Polish producer Joanna Szymańska serving as one of the Vice Chairs.

Dr. Anna Huth will serve on the Board as Deputy Treasurer. She has long been active at the intersection of education and the film industry. Since 2011, she has been affiliated with the Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia, where she holds the position of Assistant Professor. In 2019, she received her PhD in Political Science and Administration from the Institute of Political Science at the University of Silesia in Katowice.

Dr. Huth is a graduate of a postgraduate program at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB), focused on film distribution markets. She has lectured at the University of Erfurt and the Danish School of Media and Journalism in Copenhagen. Since 2023, she has also been teaching a course on documentary film distribution at the University of Vienna. As an expert for Creative Europe MEDIA’s European Co-Development program, she supports initiatives that help film and art school graduates break into the industry. With the support of the Polish Film Institute, she is currently developing several projects including Student Film Market, film:lab, and team4set.

The European Film Academy comprises over 5,000 members and actively engages in initiatives that promote European film production. It organizes trainings, workshops, and conferences that serve as a platform for knowledge exchange among professionals, contributing significantly to the European film dialogue. Its most well-known event remains the European Film Awards, a landmark celebration of cinematic excellence.
