The Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE will once again bring together all those who take an interest in science. The 8th ŚFN will be held on 7-9 December at the International Congress Centre in Katowice.
The Silesian Science Festival Katowice is an annual celebration of Silesian science, organised since 2016. For several years, the festival has gathered thousands of people hungry for knowledge. Participants will have the opportunity to listen to researchers from Poland and abroad, as well as take part in workshops, lectures and science shows.
Registration for the 8th Silesian Science Festival will begin at 12.00 on November 17. Participation is free of charge, but pre-registration is required to enter the International Congress Centre in Katowice and freely use all prepared attractions.
Registered participants will be able to receive practical and programme-related information, and will also be able to download tickets entitling them to use public transport for free to get to the 8th ŚFN (applies to people over the age of 16). The free public transport ticket will only be valid together with the Festival entry pass.
Some sessions, including hands-on workshops, will have limited capacity and require additional registration. This year’s festival promises a wide range of activities aimed at making science accessible and exciting for all ages, including interactive exhibits, engaging talks, and workshops across many scientific disciplines.
The organisers have already announced guests including astrophysicist Prof. Lukasz Wyrzykowski, who will talk about how to find a black hole and how small telescopes can help large telescopes in scientific research, and 18-time world champion in gliding competitions Sebastian Kawa, who this year became the first man to fly a glider in the Karakorum and flew over K2.
The 8th Silesian Science Festival is the culmination of the entire year of celebrations of awarding Katowice the title of the European City of Science 2024. The title of European City of Science is awarded by the EuroScience organisation and the European Commission. For this occasion, 50 thematic weeks have been organized, during which scientific topics from various fields are presented.
The founder and leader of the festival is the University of Silesia in Katowice.
