Join us in Gdańsk on May 13-14, 2024, for the 1st Internationalization Congress!
This Monday and Tuesday, the National Agency for Academic Exchange, as the coordinator of the work on the national strategy for the internationalization of higher education and research, in collaboration with the IROs Forum and Gdańsk Medical University, is initiating a broad debate with the academic and scientific community on how to wisely steer the internationalization of education at Polish universities. The event is organized under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Science.
The Internationalization Congress is carried out as part of the project entitled “Strategy for the internationalization of Polish higher education and science” from the European Funds for Social Development: Measures FERS.01.05 Skills in higher education.
During the meeting, specialists from Poland and abroad will discuss, among other things, international education programmes and the situation of foreign students in Poland.
The programme of the event includes an inter-ministerial debate between the Vice Ministers of Science, Foreign Affairs, and Interior and Administration, with Prof. Andrzej Szeptycki, Henryka Mościcka-Dendys, Ph.D. and Prof. Maciej Duszczyk. The inaugural lecture will be delivered by Laura E. Rumbley, Ph.D., Director of Knowledge, Development and Research at EAIE European Association for International Education, specialist in internationalisation of science and higher education.
Several experts from across Europe have been invited to take part in the discussion and will share their experience in developing and implementing national internationalization strategies, including representatives from agencies responsible for the development of science and higher education in Austria, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, and Slovakia. Participants in the debate will discuss recommendations for Poland, which, under the auspices of NAWA, has been working on a national strategy for the internationalization of science and higher education since January this year.
The first plenary session, titled ‘Plenary session Internationalisation strategies – do they work? From theory to practice – how to implement them?’ will be held with representatives of institutions from countries that already have national strategies for the internationalisation of higher education: Mr Jakob Calice, PhD, Managing Director, Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalisation (OeAD), Mr Michal Fedák, MA – Executive Director, Slovak Academic Information Agency (SAIA), Ms Minna Kelhä, PhD – Director General, Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI) and Mr Roman Klepetko, MA – Deputy Director, Head of Higher Education and Lifelong Learning Division, Czech National Agency for International Education and Research (DZS). The discussion will be moderated by NAWA Director, Dr Dawid Kostecki.
The 1st Internationalization Congress will be an great opportunity to discuss international trends and best practices operating abroad and will allow us to collectively formulate conclusions and set the direction for creating a national strategy for the internationalization of higher education and research.
Internationalization of higher education requires broad discussion, so we invite all those who see where the barriers to internationalization lie today and can suggest how to overcome them. We welcome those who closely observe the development of higher education in Europe and around the world and want to jointly determine the development prospects for Polish higher education.
