Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski did not launch into space as planned, as the Falcon 9 rocket launch has been postponed indefinitely. The delay is due to a technical malfunction involving a liquid oxygen (LOx) leak in the rocket’s first stage.
“Standing down from tomorrow’s Falcon 9 launch of Ax-4 to the @Space_Station to allow additional time for SpaceX teams to repair the LOx leak identified during post static fire booster inspections. Once complete – and pending Range availability – we will share a new launch date,” SpaceX stated on platform X.
The mission from Kennedy Space Center in Florida has now been delayed for the fourth time. The launch was initially scheduled for May 29, with the most recent planned date set for June 11 at 2:00 PM (CEST).
Previous delays were caused by weather conditions, including strong upper-atmosphere winds along the rocket’s flight corridor. Although forecasts had been improving—on Tuesday, the U.S. Space Force Weather Squadron reported only a 15% risk of unfavorable conditions—the latest report now estimates a 25% chance of weather-related interference on Thursday, mainly due to rain and cloud cover. Similar conditions are expected on Friday.
The Ax-4 mission crew includes:
-
Peggy Whitson (USA) – Commander
-
Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski (Poland/ESA) – Mission Specialist
-
Shubhanshu Shukla (India) – Pilot
-
Tibor Kapu (Hungary) – Mission Specialist
The participation of the Polish astronaut is the result of an agreement between the Polish Ministry of Development and Technology and the European Space Agency (ESA) to prepare and carry out the Polish IGNIS technology and science mission aboard the ISS. The mission is also supported by the Polish Space Agency (POLSA). A total of 13 experiments and technologies developed by Polish researchers and companies will be carried to the International Space Station.
